Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and regular reactions on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first professional victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
